Last week’s letter to the editor published in the O’Fallon Weekly was written by a candidate for O’Fallon District 90 School Board of Education (BOE) addressing my letter the week prior. He stated my letter was “trying to mislead you” by saying the BOE voted to raise taxes. If a taxing body like the BOE, city council, etc. votes to raise the TAX LEVY, what do they/he think will then happen? When the LEVY GOES UP, the amount of TAX DOLLARS MUST GO UP to cover the increase in revenues the levy is demanding! Not the tax rate: The Actual Tax Bill DOLLARS! That candidate thinks you are not smart enough to connect the dots between the increase in the levy and the absolute follow-on increase in property tax
DOLLARS to be collected by the county and then distributed to the taxing body FROM
YOU, the taxpayer!
One of his alternatives is to “seek other sources of funding”, that “…may take the form of
grants”. Where does grant money come from, folks? If I must state the obvious, GRANT MONEY comes from tax dollars paid by YOU, the taxpayer! Whether it’s income tax, property tax, sales tax, State tax, Federal tax or the wiffle tax, it’s all OUR TAX MONEY!
When you vote for anyone running to serve on a taxing body, such as the BOE, city
council, etc., please vote for someone that understands the relationship between their
actions and your wallet! That does not seem to be Patel or Weber.
Highly recommend visiting “ourtaxmoneyofallon.com” for great discussions of all things
property taxes! FB ‘Our Tax Money’ as well.
Thanks for reading! This will not be in the Weekly cause the editor says it would not provide the the candidates adequate time to respond to any 'accusations' leveled at them. Accusations? I say facts. Anyway, be sure and vote. With due diligence!
