A resolution was passed by the OTHS School Board at their last regular meeting, November 14, 2024, for a 2024 tax levy of $25,564,000. This represents a 10.777% increase over their tax levy requested for 2023 and a 14.859% increase over the 2023 property taxes actually extended to OTHS. Clearly this increase is not solely based on inflationary pressures. Their proposed tax levy is an attempt to obtain the maximum amount of tax revenue available under the law rather than being based on projected budgetary needs.
A great deal of documentation in their Tax Levy Packet is dedicated to tax rate calculation and discussion noting it should decrease over their previous years. It also correctly notes that a decrease in tax rate does not equate to a decrease in your property taxes. A public Tax Levy Hearing, at which the community is invited to engage in discussions with the school board via testimony and by asking questions, will be held at the OTHS School Board's regular meeting at the Smiley Campus Panther Center on December 16, 2024 at 6 pm.
