What a grand surprise in the mail today! My Property Tax Assessment Card! My taxes will only go up 12.67%. Hallelujah. I guess it could have been worse. My guess is that it will be next year too, to make it 4 or 5 years in a row.

If you read the “618nowpodcast” bio’s and/or listened to what these school board candidates have to say, Hold onto your wallets! Most of them said the “schools need more resources”. And we all know where they get those ‘resources’, don’t we?

At least two of them mentioned engaging in community dialogue. An exchange of ideas Wouldn’t that be refreshing!

Speaking of school board members, presently 4 of our 7 D90 board members are teachers/educators. Of the nine people running for the 4 competitive positions, 4 of them are teachers/educators. I’m thinkin’ that the teachers and, by default, the administrators, have plenty of representation from the Teachers Union.

Calm yourself now. I love teachers. My wife taught for 17 years. My kids and grand kids turned out great. But I think it would be marvelous to have some opposing viewpoints on the board, just to get a little discussion going!

I’m thinking that the following should be ‘our picks’. Cobb, Maupins and Underwood. Patel could turn out OK if he will commit to doing his research/homework before spewing the ‘company line’ as it comes out from the administration.

Save your money. You're gonna need it.
